How to (re-)design Singapore’s streets for active mobility?
By Future Cities Laboratory (FCL)
Singapore has announced ambitious plans to make cycling a more popular mode of transport, including the implementation of new cycling infrastructure and other initiatives. This may be an opportune moment to take a step back and reflect on the reciprocity between urban design and active mobility.
Does the new infrastructure provide a pleasant and safe experience for cyclists? Does Singapore’s tropical climate and existing street network hinder or promote active mobility? How did cities that are walking and cycling havens attain their status?
In a panel discussion moderated by Prof Dr Stephen Cairns, programme director of the Future Cities Laboratory, experts from transport planning, urban design, planning authorities and a cycling enthusiast group will discuss key questions about how to make Singapore’s streets and urban fabric more inviting for cyclists and pedestrians.
Join this dialogue on street design and active mobility in a lively lunchtime session.
On 5 Oct at Archifest Pavilion@Raffles Place Park, from 9.00 am - 5.00 pm, FCL offers a peephole into an alternative future in Tiong Bahru, where Seng Poh Road is reimagined and redesigned for cyclists and pedestrians.
